Sport Mouthguards At Your Dentistree Mornington

Sport mouthguards are a thick and often spongy protective layer that covers the gums and teeth from injury. These are recommended for Aussies who are active in contact sports such as AFL, Rugby, Soccer, and Hockey where there is an increased risk of an accident.

The Australian Dental Association reports around one third of all traumatic injuries in sport are teeth-related. These injuries include chipped or broken teeth, soft tissue trauma of the mouth, gums or lips or jaw fracture. Injury prevention is the primary reason for wearing a sport mouthguard. The material reduces the force of impact, and protects your teeth and gums from traumatic injury.

Why Your Dentistree Mornington?

Your Dentistree Mornington has partnered up with multiple local sporting clubs as the trusted Mornington Peninsula Mouthguard dentist of choice.

We are dedicated to protecting your mouth and jaw from traumatic injury. We can create a custom-fitted sport mouthguard with an array of layers and colours to choose from. We are supporters of local sports clubs to protect schools and communities from dental injury. With our on-site dental laboratory, a new mouthguard can always be made very quickly and conveniently.

Why Custom-Fitted?

Store-bought mouthguards are usually uncomfortable, poor fitting and may affect your ability to breathe and talk. Sporting authorities recommend custom-fitted mouth guards as they maximise comfort and protection.

How to Care For A Sport Mouthguard?

  1. Rinse with water after use
  2. Allow to air dry
  3. Keep protected in a case when not in use
  4. Occasionally, wash with soapy water and separate toothbrush
  5. Disinfect with mouthwash, denture tablet or some diluted vinegar solution for 30 minutes
  6. Keep away from pets
  7. Bring to each dental appointment for inspection

How Often Should A Sport Mouthguard Be Reassessed?

As children grow and teeth erupt, we recommend a mouthguard be replaced as soon as they are ill-fitting, or generally every 12 to 18 months. It is important to bring your mouthguard to your six-monthly appointment to check the fit and maintain maximum protection.

If your sports club is interested in organising mouthguards for a group of teammates, feel free to contact us to organise to take everyone’s impressions.
